Dr. Kalum McKay is an accomplished teacher, principal, speaker, and educational leader. He currently serves as the middle school principal of Reagan County Middle School. He has spent the last 5 years as an elementary principal. Prior to the principalship, he spent one year as a secondary instructional technology and curriculum specialist and six years teaching/coaching various contents at the secondary level.

As a campus leader, Dr. McKay has placed an emphasis on student growth, school culture, and campus turnaround. Dr. McKay has developed and implemented the Choose to be G.R.E.A.T framework and philosophy on 3 campuses. The goal is to promote growth, school culture, SEL, and character building. This has an emphasis on the following areas:

Through implementation, Dr. McKay helped lead an elementary school in state accountability from what would have been a D in the new Texas accountability system to a B. He also played a part in boosting campus morale, leading to a decrease in teacher turnover and decreased student behavior concerns. Early returns have shown a decrease in office referrals by 30% and a decrease in teacher turnover from 30% to 10%.
